I had a patient come in. I was going over the history and exam findings and I noticed she had been in a car accident six months before she came to the office. It seems the patient had a slight car accident, but there were no injuries after the crash. Now six months later, she was experiencing chronic pain in her neck and low back. She could not recall anything that brought on the pain and that it just gradually came to be. After reviewing her x-rays, I noticed that the curve of her spine was misaligned and that was causing her pain. After consulting with her, I explained that part of her problem today was the car accident six months ago. Mouth agape, she looked puzzled as how this could be. The problem with the car accident is that there is so much force placed on the spine in a split second; that it caused the bones in her spine to become just slightly out of place.
